If you have pets or kids... make sure to be checking for ticks.... and stop in for your preventatives if you haven't already!!!! We have been finding them on pets, and kids. Ticks only need a few days of temperatures above 40 degree, to start to emerge for the season.
Besides bug season... we are getting very close to graduation and grilling season. Please make sure and keep pets safe during these parties. Making sure to give them a quiet place away from the chaos and traffic, and making sure they are kept away from all of the amazing foods.
Vaccination Days!!! With the business transition, we still want to provide some time to catch up on the vaccines, but wanted to get a better handle on our new computer system before we scheduled them. We will be offering 2 days in May... May 19 and May 28. Annual exams are required for all pets to receive vaccinations. Please make sure small pets are in a carrier and dogs are leashed, the clinic tends to be quite full on these days because of tight scheduling.
On-Line Store. We are now set up for on-line purchasing!!!!!! Please be patient as we add yet another new feature. If you have questions using our new site, please call. The link is on our website home page. Prices should be very similar to our clinic prices, if you are finding discrepancies, please let us know.
Picking up Medications/Prescriptions/Preventatives. For those that have not been in since ownership change, your first transaction will take time, to update your personal information and create a new on-line file for your pet. If you can call ahead for medications, this will help to decrease your wait time. We are still collecting and updated information from all clients, so that we have current address, phone numbers, email address, current pets and significant others to list appropriately on accounts. Please be prepared for updating information at appointments or medicine pick ups. Pets require an annual exam, in order to pick up any prescription medications. Large animal clients must have an annual site visit in order for us to sell any prescription medications.
Updates across species:
Bovine. Many are finishing up calving, some are still in the middle of it. Make sure to have a plan for castrating, +/- dehorning and vaccinating prior to going on pasture... if you need help, we would be happy to set up a protocol for your farm. Also, get your bulls checked... we call them Breeding Soundness Exams, because we perform a full physical + semen evaluation, to determine if your bull is satisfactory to perform his duties.
Equine. This is the time of year to get horses updated on vaccines, prior to competition season, as well as updating their EIA (Coggins Test). We can also schedule dentals at the time of vaccinations. If you aren't already doing it, please consider adding the Rabies vaccine to your protocol.
Sheep/goats. Most are through lambing and kidding. These are usually banded and tail docked (sheep) around birth. Make sure these tasks are performed and baby goat should be dehorned before 2 weeks of age as well. Make sure they are receiving CD+T vaccination and boostered in 3-4 weeks.
Swine. Our commercial barns are battling the same diseases as usual, PRRS always seems to come up. Show animals- make sure we are vaccinated! Make sure we know what is required for each state/ exhibition.

Have a happy and safe holiday season... Happy Mother's Day! Happy Graduation Day! Happy Memorial Day! May we celebrate all of these important people in our lives!
